Autism workshop to be held on UofL Shelby Campus 

Program will explore supporting individuals with autism in the workforce 

 

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky Autism Training Center at the University of Louisville 
is hosting a workshop May 3 and 4 on the Shelby Campus. 

 

The two-day conference will review both the initial assessment of transition needs and the 
ongoing community-based assessment process that are outlined by the TEACCH (Treatment and 
Education of Autistic and related Communications-handicapped Children) Transition Assessment 
Profile. 

 

The program will be held in the Founders Union building, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Cost for the 
workshop is $50 and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. 

The workshop will be conducted by John Thomas, director of training for the Autism Society of 
North Carolina. The primary objective of the presentation is to familiarize participants with instructional 
procedures that support the development of post-school outcomes. The presentation will also review 
how information from community-based instruction is used in the classroom to support skills 
development. 

Thomas is coordinator of direct service staff training for 400 staff and staff supervisor for the 
Autism Early Intervention Model. He is also a trainer of the TEACCH Transition Assessment Profile 
and documentation system for community-based instruction.
