College of Education and Human Development students (Bachelor's degree student with 60 hours of credit and M.A.T. degree students), in elementary teacher education programs are eligible for the International Teaching Experience in Belize. Applicants must be working toward Early Childhood, Elementary, and/or Special Education Certification (LBD or MSD) and have successfully completed the first semester of their education program. Other applicants may be considered. Accepted students must enroll in EDSP 597 in order to participate.

Pre-Departure Class Dates: There will be six mandatory 2-hour class sessions. The first session will be held on December 5, 2023 (evening time TBD) and the remaining five sessions in spring 2024.
Total Program Fee: $2500
Program Fee Payment: The $2500 program fee will be posted directly to your student account by the Bursar’s Office.
Program Fee Includes: Airfare, Accommodations, Meals, Excursions, In-Country Transportation, UofL Polo Shirts (for teaching). Tuition for the EDSP 597 course is included.
Program Fee Does Not Include: Passport and personal items (gifts, souvenirs, etc.)
Experience: Participants are provided a culturally rich experience while they teach in and learn about their chosen field as they are immersed in the cultures of an international village school, Red Bank, (Stann Creek District) Belize. CEHD students learn firsthand the protocols and practices of its school, the curriculum, and instructional practices. Students will spend 5 full days working in Belize schools. When students are not teaching, the group will participate in cultural excursions such as visiting a Mayan ruins, a rainforest, and a coral reef.
