This event salutes a pre-eminent and influential Pan-African scholar, writer and activist, whose presence at the university these past ten years has added immeasurably to its cultural and intellectual life.

Speakers include the Guyanese political activist Eusi Kwayana and the Caribbean Canadian writer and organizer David Austin. Of special interest is a slide show from the life and times of Professor Carew, whose public career spans over four continents and five decades, and includes collaborations with such noted figures as Kwame Nkrumah, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, and Ivan Van Sertima. U of L Professors David Anderson, John Chenault and Joy Carew will also be on hand to help us appreciate the significance of Carew’s many achievements and adventures.

There will be a reception immediately following the program, where Professor Carew will be signing books and prints of his paintings, some of which will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public, and all are invited.
