Addictions Treatment Program
People with mood disorders have a greater risk for also suffering addiction, and the evidence for effective treatment mandates an approach that includes addressing both problems. The Addictions Program offers an individualized, multidisciplinary approach to persons suffering from addictions and the mood problems that frequently accompany them.
The Director of the Addictions Program, Chris Stewart, MD, is board certified in Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, and leads a staff including other addiction psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, and counselors with extensive experience in treating addiction.
Services offered include substance abuse disorder and psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, individual, group, and family therapy including cognitive-behavior therapy, medication management, outpatient detoxification, and medication assisted therapies that include naltrexone and buprenorphine maintenance.
Insurance payment for services is accepted when available. However self-payment for some services is usually necessary.
Through a close affiliation with other programs at the University of Louisville Depression Center, the Addictions Program is able to develop individualized treatment plans that are informed by the latest advances in addiction science that also meet each person’s specific needs.
