Research Interests:

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by gingival inflammation and periodontal bone loss. Invasion of etiological bacteria into periodontal tissues induces host immune responses, which cause lateral tissue destruction and bone resorption. Helper T cells are pivotal in the establishment and optimization of adaptive immunity, therefore an important component of host response. Our research interest is to investigate host T cell responses induced by the important periodontitis etiological pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg). Using a series of in vitro assays and in vivo models, we aim to elucidate the function of Pg-induced T cell response in periodontal disease development. Our goal is to determine the signaling pathways that promote differentiation of relevant T cell subsets, and identify potential therapeutic targets for periodontal diseases.

Our another research interest is to design novel nanoparticles carrying targeting molecules and NBD inhibitory peptides to specifically down-regulate NF-kB signaling and excessive inflammation, therefore prevent/cure bone loss in periodontitis more efficiently and specifically.
