Gill Diamond awarded multiple NIH grants

OIID Professor Dr. Gill Diamond was recently awarded two grants from NIH to study two different topics related to oral immunology and infectious diseases.

An R01 from NIDCR, entitled “Topical Vitamin D and Periodontal Disease” will be used for Diamond lab studies aimed at identifying therapeutic interventions to ameliorate periodontal disease.  The research will investigate how vitamin D applied directly to oral epithelium can enhance the innate immune defense against periodontal pathogens, and reduce inflammation.

A second grant from NIAID, entitled, “Antimicrobial Peptide Mimetic Activity Against Candida auris” will be used to examine the activity of novel antimicrobial agents against this newly emerged fungal pathogen, with an eye towards developing them as a new type of antifungal drugs.
