How I Used SoftChalk to Move Beyond PowerPoint

Are you and your students tired of the same old PowerPoint presentations? Are you interested in making your blended or online course content more engaging for students? Are you open to new ways of structuring your course?
In this session, Kent School of Social Work faculty member Larry Michalczyk will describe how he used an innovative program called SoftChalk Create to transition beyond traditional teaching methods.
With SoftChalk, you can create interactive elements, quizzes, modules, or an entire course that contains a variety of digital media. SoftChalk "lessons" can be published in Blackboard and can be linked directly to the Grade Center. Instructional designer Aimee Greene will also be on hand to support you in achieving your instructional goals.
As a result of attending this session, you will be able to:
- Generate ideas and approaches to incorporate online modules into your blended/online course;
- Describe the purpose and utility of SoftChalk Create;
- Identify example modules and obtain ideas about how to create content; and
- Convert content into an online format using SoftChalk Create.

Aimee Greene, MS, is assistant director for instructional design and technology at the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning. Aimee combines her previous instructional design, project management and facilitation experience to the design, development, implementation and evaluation of web-based instruction to lead the Instructional Design and Technology team. She collaborates with subject-matter experts to define content and develop online courses for the Delphi Center.
Larry Michalczyk, MSSW, brings over 35 years of social work experience in public service to the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work where he serves as a full-time faculty instructor in Social Policy and Student Internships. He teaches both online and traditional classes. Larry received his BA in Social Welfare from Loyola University, and his MSSW from UofL’s Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work.
