UofL Blackboard 9.1 Learn 2014 Known Issues

Updated: January 22, 2015

Issue

Description

Resolution/Workaround

Browser – Internet Explorer, Chrome & Firefox – Authentication prompt when playing .wmv file

After embedding a .wmv file into an item using the Content Editor, a pop-up window will appear when accessing the content area prompting users to enter their username and password despite already being logged into Blackboard.

Workaround: enter Blackboard login credentials and the video will play or click Cancel on the form

Course Copy – Discussion Board

When doing a Course Copy and including the Discussion Board, selecting “include starter posts” leads to pop-up message and error when trying to de-anonymize the posts.

Workarounds:

1. Do not include starter posts in Discussion Board when doing Course Copy.

2. Select to leave the message anonymous in the popup message.

Note: For a full description and workaround suggestion for this issue see the Discussion Board Error in Course Copy [PDF] .

Tests – Pop-up messages not working properly

While taking a test, if a student skips more than one question which includes a multiple fill-in-the-blank question, then selects the "Save and Submit" button, the skipped multiple fill-in-the-blank question will not appear in "The following questions may be incomplete:" pop-up message.

While taking a test, if a student skips only one question (a multiple fill-in-the-blank question), then selects the "Save and Submit" button, "The following questions may be incomplete:" popup message will be bypassed and the "Test submission confirmation:" pop-up message will display on the screen.

Workarounds:

1. Students should check question completion status at the top of the test.

2. Students should double check that each question on the test has been answered.

Test Options conflict

The "Do Not allow students to Start the test if the due date has passed" function overrides any availability dates scheduled in the Availability Exception section of the Test Options form. This combination of selections will cause individuals or groups the inability to access a test beyond the test's due date even when granted extended availability dates.

Resolution: Do not use the "Do Not all students to Start the test if the due date has passed" function if any availability date exceptions are granted.

Browser – Firefox & Chrome – Blocks Mixed Security URLs

The latest versions of Firefox and Chrome have introduced Mixed Active Content Blocking which makes your web experience more secure. Unfortunately it can also block legitimate links such as videos and the help pages in Blackboard.

Workaround: Allow the insecure content on the page. For complete details see the Browser Issues and Missing Content page (opens in new window).

Tests – Access to Random Block Question Types in Prior Course Student Exams

With the upgrade there is a problem viewing student attempts of completed exams – IN PRIOR COURSES. When accessing a student’s exam attempt containing questions in a random block from a pool both instructors and students receive an error. The grade is displayed but viewing an individual attempt displays an error.

Workaround: Instructors are able to view the responses given by students on any questions by using the Grade Questions option from the Full Grade Center in the Column title drop-down for the exam.

Organizations - Respondus Test Generator

Respondus Test Generator does not access My Organizations on our Blackboard System due to a code issue with the My Organizations module we use. When using Respondus you will only see your courses listed but no organizations.

Workaround: You are able to create the pool of questions and save the file for manual loading into your organization.

  • Go to Respondus
  • Preview and Publish
  • Publish to Blackboard

· Publish Wizard "Save pool for manual loading"

· Login to Blackboard Organization with web browser to upload the file
