Information regarding health, services and well-being for UofL employees

Self-Care

Each one of us is affected by this global event, and our interconnectedness must be our strength in these uncertain days. Our people are our greatest asset and highest priority. To help cope with heightened concerns there are a variety of mental health services available to you.

  • The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides assistance through special arrangements with an outside counseling resource. The program deals with the broad range of human problems such as emotional/behavioral and other personal problems. The current service provider is the Human Development Company, (502) 589-4357.
  • Emotional Support Hotline - Optum is opening an Emotional-Support Help Line, providing access to specially trained mental health specialists to support people who may be experiencing anxiety or stress following the recent developments around COVID-19. Optum’s toll-free help line number, 866-342-6892, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for as long as necessary. The service is free of charge and open to anyone.
  • Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, School of Medicine, Clinical Services

Help prevent further spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

If you feel unwell, we encourage you to contact your local doctor or Campus Health.

Campus Health Services

If you feel unwell, or if you develop a temperature greater than 100.4° (F), cough or sore throat while in self-isolation, contact your local doctor or Campus Services  (502-852-6446 or 502-852-6479). A nurse or physician will be available to speak with you directly when you call. Call UofL Campus Health Services at 502-852-6446 or your nearest emergency room before going to any healthcare facility. This is to protect other patients and ensure that you are in isolation immediately upon arrival.
