Inclement Weather Plan
The University of Louisville is exceptionally pleased to bring back in-person commencement ceremonies this spring by holding them outdoors at Cardinal Stadium. In doing so, we are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the governor’s guidelines for hosting gatherings outdoors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
UofL will hold Spring 2021 Commencement ceremonies as scheduled, rain or shine, except in the case of severe conditions or threats such as:
- tornado watches/warnings,
- severe thunderstorms,
- lightning, or
- high winds.
Public safety officials will be on site monitoring conditions.
If weather conditions warrant a postponement or cancellation, UofL will send notification via text to the mobile telephone number you provided when you reserved your tickets. If necessary, staff will provide updates on site via public announcement and on video screens.
In the event of rain, the following will be allowed in Cardinal Stadium:
- raincoats, and
- something to cover wet seats.
Please be mindful of the clear bag policy that will also be in effect.
Since CDC and state Covid-19 guidelines will not allow congregating in and around the facility, please prearrange an off-site meeting place for graduates and guests in the case of an emergency.
We realize graduates and guests have made plans around ceremony dates, and the University will make every reasonable effort to keep to the weekend schedule as planned. However, we have reserved Sunday, May 9, as a severe weather alternative date if one is necessary.
Both the weather and Covid-19 are unpredictable. Please check this website frequently for the latest updates.
