School of Medicine

Established March 1998

This chair was endowed by the Children's Hospital Foundation on behalf of Norton Children's Hospital and the Carol B. McFerran Memorial Fund and matched by the state Research Challenge Trust Fund. The chair holder must be a researcher with a strong record in pediatric diabetes.

Norton Children's Hospital, part of the Norton Healthcare system, is the medical school's principal pediatric teaching hospital. The McFerran chair holder has access to state-of-the-art lab facilities as part of the Norton Children's Hospital Research Institute.

The McFerran fund was created by the McFerran family in 1953 in memory of their daughter, who died of childhood diabetes. Its purpose is to support patient care and research to battle the disease.
