Stephen SchneiderEnglish professor Stephen Schneider has studied Cave Hill Cemetery and what it says about Louisville’s history. Cemetery. Cave Hill Cemetery was founded in 1848 to address the need for increased burial space in Louisville. Since then, Cave Hill has become not just a space for family members to visit their loved ones, but also a museum of municipal history dedicated to notable citizens extending from Louisville’s first mayor to Muhammad Ali. In this presentation, Stephen Schneider, Professor of English, will examine Cave Hills’ memorial landscape, from the designs of city engineer Edmund Francis Lee and the influence of rural cemetery movement to modern day efforts to commemorate the people and events that have defined the river city.

Prof. Schneider will speak at the University Club on September 7, 2017 at 12PM about Cave Hill Cemetery.
