Historian to lecture about protests, politics in Ecuador

A history professor and Ecuadoran university president will speak Nov. 20, 2019 at the University of Louisville about social movements, power and politics in Ecuador.
Enrique Ayala Mora will give the free, public talk about “Social Movements, Authoritarian Regimes and Caudillismo in Ecuador” at 4:30 p.m. in Room 139, Shumaker Research Building. The event is the 18th annual Latin American and Latino Studies Heritage Lecture, offered by the Latin American and Latino studies program within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Ayala Mora is president and dean of the history faculty at Universidad Andina Simon Bolivar in Quito.
He also has been editor of a journal about modern Ecuadoran history, editorial committee member of UNESCO’s nine-volume “The General History of Latin America” and a consultant for the United Nations University in Tokyo. He is a member of the Association of Historians of Latin America, Association of Historians of Ecuador and the Society of Latin American Studies in Great Britain.
