Please join us on Thursday, April 21, 2011, Noon at the University Club for Presumption of Incompetence. The luncheon dialogue includes the voices of Dr. Sharon Moore, Kent School of Social Work, her UofL colleagues (Professor Brenda Hart, Dr. Linda L. Wilson, the late Dr. Veronica Hinton-Hudson, Dr. Sherri Wallace who authored a chapter in her newly edited book, “Dilemmas of Black Faculty at Predominantly White Institutions in the United States: Issues of the Post-Multicultural Era”; as well as contains chapters authored by other faculty including a former UofL faculty member, Dr. Rhunette Diggs.
The text encompasses the physical, psychological, spiritual, social, and legal issues confronting African American faculty who teach at white academic institutions. This text will be particularly relevant for the University of Louisville culture since the University is a predominantly white higher education institution (PWI), located in a “Adams state”… The Kentucky Plan by providing an opportunity to listen to the voices of African American faculty in preparation to enhance the campus climate and educational process for future students. As the University looks at itself as a "great place to work", and examines the demographics and data impacting African American faculty in the recent COSW updated survey...this text is important for every administrator,dean and chair "recognized as the canary in the coal mine".
