COMMUNITY OF CARE

A&S DECC Fall 2021 Training Schedule

Level Setting: Shared Language on Equity and Inclusion
Description: Language matters. As we continue to embark on a journey towards cultivating anti-racist actions throughout the College, it is important to level set and ensure that all members of our community have a shared understanding of key terms and concepts. This workshop explores anti-racist terminology and its applicability to higher education.
Facilitator: Cherie Dawson-Edwards
Dates: Thursday, October 14 at 4-5p
Location: Hybrid – Team and Brigman Hall 100C
Register HERE! by October 11th

Building Equity Consciousness in Your Organization
Description: Using The Urban Institute’s “Equity Minded Indicators” tool, this workshop will explore the term “Equity-Mindedness” which refers to “the perspective or mode of thinking exhibited by practitioners who call attention to patterns of inequity in student outcomes”. Those committed to equity-mindedness are willing to take personal and institutional responsibility for the success of their students and critically reassess their own practices. Centering equity also requires us to develop and maintain race-consciousness and be actively aware of the social and historical context of exclusionary practices in American Higher Education.
Facilitator: Cherie Dawson-Edwards
Dates: Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 2-3p and by request
Location: Hybrid – Team and Brigman Hall 100C
Register HERE! by October 15th

Employing Empathy & Cultivating Belonging
Description: Maureen Linker describes intellectual empathy (IE) as “the cognitive-affective elements of thinking about identity and social difference”. It challenges us to place ourselves in another person’s shoes as them with their context. Through an introductory exploration of microaggressions and implicit bias, we will delve into IE as such a simple but often difficult to employ workplace concept. This workshop will introduce the five essential skills for employing intellectual empathy while providing real-world application to higher education environments. It will challenge participants to rethink their roles in their respective units and expand beyond their scope of influence and web of belief.
Facilitator: Cherie Dawson-Edwards
Dates: Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 2-3p and by request
Location: Hybrid – Team and Brigman Hall 100C
Register HERE! by November 1st

OPERATIONS

2021 Annual Leave Adjustment Reminder

This is a reminder that the Dec. 31, 2021 deadline for the annual leave adjustment is quickly approaching. This annual leave adjustment ensures that staff do not carry forward more than two times the amount of leave they are currently eligible to accrue. We recommend that you review your accrued leave amount and determine if you are nearing, or have exceeded, the maximum hours allowed for carryover. Your balance will need to be below the maximum accrual amount by Dec. 31, 2021.

Required COVID-19 testing

Due to recent severe weather, we are extending this month’s deadline for required COVID-19 testing to Friday, Feb. 26 for students, faculty and staff who come to campus. To schedule a test with Bluewater Lab, go here and click on the tab of your preferred testing site. If you are not coming to campus at all this semester, make sure you’ve filled out this reporting form for the spring. This form must be competed one time each semester.
