COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES

March 2, 2001

Members Present: R. Baldwin, T. Mackey, R. Powers, R. Roebuck, M. Rohmann, E. Segal, M. Stenger (Chair), R. Taylor

In response to a question from the Advising Center about block transfer, the committee ruled (in the absence of a different decision from the General Education Course Committee) that students transferring from other state institutions who have met the social/behavioral general education requirement at that institution without taking a history course, do not have to take a history course as a separate requirement at UofL.

The committee reviewed degree program drafts for the B.S. in Science-Dental Hygiene and the B.S. in Science-Medicine. There were suggestions regarding the chemistry requirements for the Science-Dental Hygiene degree and they will be discussed with the Dental Hygiene program. The committee recommended that the Science-Medicine degree be suspended.

ML 500: Special Topics was approved as a new course.

ENGL 677: Assessing and Responding to Student Writing was returned to the department for additional information.

TA 420: Acting III was approved.

The committee discussed the issue of submitting 300 and 400 level courses for General Education content area requirements and it was decided to continue to approve only 100 and 200 level courses for the coming year.
