CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES

AUGUST 31, 1999

Professor Stenger, Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.

The minutes of the meeting of August 16, 1999, were approved as distributed.

Professor Iyun clarified the readings for PAS 333, for which a level change to 500 and cross-listing with Women's Studies was requested. Final action on the course was deferred until the full committee had a copy of the complete syllabus.

The following course actions were approved, effective Spring 2000 unless otherwise noted:

    PAS 342/ENGL 342: African, African-American, and Caribbean Women Novelists (cross-listed). The short title to be clarified with the department before the course is forwarded to the Provost's Office.

    PAS 567/ENGL 567: Post Colonial Voices (cross-listed)
    PAS 551/ENGL 550: Studies in African-American Literature (cross-listed)
    PAS 575/ENGL 575: Genre Studies in African-American Literature (cross-listed)
    PAS 577/ENGL 577: The Harlem Renaissance (cross-listed)

    ANTH 231/WMST 202: Perspectives on Gender (deleted)
    ANTH 328: Indians of South America (deleted)
    ANTH 335: Social Organization (title change TO Culture and Community)
    ANTH 449: Senior Seminar (action deferred for clarification of how this would affect the department's assessment plan)

The committee discussed a proposal from the Advising Center to remove completion of Pre-College Curriculum deficiencies from the College's requirements for a student's removal from conditional status. Final action was postponed until additional information could be obtained from Admissions.
