CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES

AUGUST 16, 1999

Members Present: R. Baldwin, T. Mackey, S. Maloney, R. Powers, M. Rohmann, M. Stenger, R. Taylor

Members Absent: J. Hart

The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m.

Professor Stenger was elected chair of the Curriculum Committee for AY 1999-2000

The committee determined that its meeting time would be Tuesday, 9:30 -11:00 a.m. for the fall semester.

The minutes of the meeting of April 19 were approved as distributed.

The committee approved the Department of Biology's proposal that students who successfully complete the International Baccalaureate examination (higher level) with a score of 5 or better receive 4 hours of credit in Biology 102/104. This will be effective for first time students in Fall 1999.

The following actions were approved, effective Fall 2000 unless otherwise noted:

MATH 311: Introduction to Higher Math; prerequisite changed from Math 206 to Math 205.
MATH 311: Approved as required course in the degree programs for B.A. and B.S. in Mathematics and for the minor in Mathematics. As a result of this addition, the electives in each of those programs will be reduced by 3 credit hours.
TA 625: MFA Performance Project and TA 645 MFA Production Project were changed from letter grade to S/U. (This action will be effective Spring 2000, pending approval of the Graduate School.)
BIOL 415: Biology of the Cell (WR credit)
BIOL 651: Biostatistics II (new course; approved with editorial changes to the course description)
BIOL 368: Microtechnique (delete)
BIOL 503: Protozoology (delete)
BIOL 525: Aquatic Biology (delete)
BIOL 603: Advanced Protozoology (delete)
BIOL 604: Advanced Biological Electron Microscopy (delete)
BIOL 625: Advanced Aquatic Botany (delete)
BIOL 665: Advanced Sociobiology (delete)
