Dolly Parton by Henry Horenstein, 1972

Photography by Henry Horenstein, adjunct faculty in the Department of Fine Arts, is being featured in Honky Tonk, a solo exhibition at Paul Paletti Gallery, which runs until September 30, 2014. Horenstein works as a photographic historian, documenting unrecorded stories. Over the years, he has photographed such legends as Dolly Parton, Del Reeves, and Doc Watson, as well as the patrons of the smoke-filled honky tonks where they performed. Horenstein is a professor of photography at the Rhode Island School of Design and his work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, George Eastman House, Fabrik der Kunste in Hamburg, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

A special reception with the artist Henry Horenstein will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5-8pm at Paul Paletti Gallery, located at 713 East Market St., Louisville, KY 40202. A look-a-like competition will be hosted during the artist reception. Come dressed as Dolly Parton or Porter Wagoner for a chance to win prizes.
