Artist in Residence Lecture: Katie Phillips

Katie Phillips is a fiber artist living and working in Louisville, KY. Phillips graduated from the University of Louisville in 2009 with emphasis in fiber and glass. From UofL she received a Hite Scholarship, the Winthrop Allen Memorial Prize and the William Fischer Endowed Senior Art Project Grant. She received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2012 where she was a Merit Award recipient. Phillips has shown both regionally and nationally including most recently in the exhibition "Welcome Neighbors: Art From Nulu" at the Speed Museum’s satellite space. Phillips’ work combines romantic conceptualism with the everyday through crafted objects and sculptural works. Her series of every day objects covered in beads seek to elevate the mundane through adornment adding a sense of ritual to the familiar. She will present a lecture titled " Thinking Through Making and the Graduate School Experience"
