UPDATED COURSE OFFERING: ANTH 608-75 - Social and Cultural Theory

The contention in the ring is one key to the seminar. Newer theories that zigzag through the classical (Marxian and Weberian) canon are also addressed: Gramscian, Foucaultian, feminist, postcolonial, and other positions will be examined. The seminar is designed to prepare students for research in “modern” and “non-modern” social worlds. That goal is both intellectual and social. The perspective is largely, but not only, anthropological. Shawn Parkhurst, Instructor
