These awards, open to students from all disciplines, support UofL undergraduates planning to study and conduct research during Summer 2023. To be eligible, students must be able to demonstrate plans for continued enrollment at UofL in Fall 2023. Students are responsible for creating their own proposed summer plan. Past recipients have conducted independent research, taken specialized courses in their field, completed professional internships, or undertaken intensive study at overseas or domestic language institutes. Awards will be offered in increments determined by the cost of the program and the student’s level of funding from other sources. Applicants can propose a preferred and alternate program and budgets for both. For more information and a copy of the application, please email the National and International Scholarships Office at NISO@louisville.edu or bethany.smith.1@louisville.edu.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis between now and April 1, 2023.

Application Process:

  • Complete the application and essay.
  • Attach a resume and unofficial UofL transcript.
  • Request letters of recommendation from two faculty members, to be submitted to NISO@louisville.edu.

Typical profile of a strong application:

  • Proposed program is intense, academically rigorous, and at least three weeks long.
  • Intent to apply for prestigious national scholarships (ex: Goldwater, Boren, Fulbright), with this summer program as a significant step toward future goals.
  • Chosen course of study is something beyond what is available at UofL.
  • Cost of program is reasonable relative to the length of the program.
  • Project/activity may be eligible to receive course credit from UofL
