Professor Zhao of the Anthro Department speaks on fashion, cultural borrowings and the question of appropriation of dress.

Professor Andrew Zhao of the Department of Anthropology at UofL appeared live recently on China 24, an international news show on the cable network CGTN, to speak to an incident at a Utah high school, in which an American teenage girl chose a traditional Chinese dress, a Qipao, as prom garb.   In the news clip below, Dr. Zhao considers the implications of this controversy and the differences between cultural borrowing and appropriation.
