Southwest Ohio Border Benefit Award Information & Criteria

Beginning Fall 2022, this estimated $16,000* grant enables students residing in Southwest Ohio to pay the equivalent of KY in-state tuition by subtracting this amount from their tuition bill.

Incoming freshmen and transfer students will automatically receive this renewable award upon admission to UofL.

Additional Information

We strongly encourage freshmen students with ACT/SAT score that meet the below criteria to submit those to automatically receive merit aid of $1,000-5,000 above the estimated $16,000*.

All students admitted without ACT/SAT scores and a 3.5 weighted GPA will be considered for merit aid ranging from $1,000-3,000. Merit aid for freshmen students without ACT/SAT scores will be based on a comprehensive review of the high school transcript including grades and curriculum, particularly college preparatory courses.

The Southwest Ohio Border Benefit cannot be combined with the Grawemeyer Scholarship, Brown Fellows Program or National Merit finalist scholarship.

Simply submit a UofL Take Flight application or the Common App, along with the $25 application fee (or fee waiver documentation) and your high school transcript. ACT/SAT scores are optional, although we do encourage students with qualifying test scores to submit their scores.

If you qualify for the Southwest Ohio Border Benefit, you will be notified following your admission to the University of Louisville. No separate application is required. 

The University of Louisville guarantees Admission-Based Scholarships until May 1 for students entering UofL in the fall.
