Credit vs. Audit

Differentiation between classes taken for credit or audit.

One of the first questions you will be asked is if you are taking the course for credit or audit. The registration process is very different depending on your answer.

Courses for credit

If you are interested in taking courses for credit, meaning you will receive a grade at the end of the course, these grades and the credits can apply towards a degree or be transferred to another institution.

To register for a course, you will need to wait for your assigned registration window to open and register online through your ULink account. See here for more information on the registration process.

Courses for audit

If you are interested in taking courses for audit, meaning you will not receive a grade at the end of the course, you will need to receive written permission from your professor. To do so, you will need to:

  1. Complete an Add/Drop Request and bring it to the first day of classes.
  2. Ask your professor to sign the Request.
  3. Bring the signed Request back to our office, located in the Houchens Building, Lower Level.

*Please note, it is up to the professor as to whether you are required to complete assignments or sit for exams as an auditing student. Typically, this is not required, but this is ultimately the professor’s decision-please discuss this with your professor for each course.
