Here at the University of Louisville School of Music I conduct the Trumpet Ensemble, which presents recitals and performs at local churches. The ensemble was honored to be asked to perform at the following International Trumpet Guild Conferences: 1991 (Baton Rouge, Louisiana); 1994 (Champaign, Illinois); and 1998 (Lexington, Kentucky) and at the 1995 Summit Brassfest in Bloomington, Indiana.

Recently the University of Louisville Trumpet Quartet won First Prize in the Ensemple Division of the 1999 National TrumpetNtc.jpg (52396 bytes) Competition. The competition was held at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia on March 19, 1999. The ensemble was awarded a prize of $1000. The members of the quartet were Jennifer McCord, graduate student from North Carolina, Geoff McBride, senior from Northern Kentucky, DeWayne T. Venzen, senior from the Virgin Islands and Daniel Hazelton, sophomore from Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Tunnell coached the ensemble which performed the Samuel Scheidt Canzon and the William Schmidt Variants with Solo Cadenzas to take the first place award. The Indiana University Trumpet Ensemble won second place and third place was awarded to FLorida State.

Hazleton and McBride also participated in the undergraduate solo division, and Fabio Brun, a junior at Atherton High School who studies privately with Dr. Tunnell, participated in the high school division. Brum is an exchange student from Brazil.

Geoff McBride is also a finalist in the International Trumpet Guild Mock Orchestra Competition which will take place in May in Richmond, Virginia.
