English 625: Methods in ESL
This course examines theories and issues concerning first and second
language acquisition; types, strategies, and styles of learning a second
language; factors affecting success in learning a second language;
interlanguage and evidence of stages of development in second language
learning; methods and procedures for teaching and testing listening, speaking,
reading, and writing, and developing students' working knowledge of the
grammar, sounds, and semantics of the language. We will also look at
theoretical foundations, cultural considerations, and classroom
practices/materials. Instruction will be provided through assigned readings,
classroom discussions and activities, and in individual and group writing
assignments.

English 626: ESL Endorsement Portfolio
Assists post-service teachers in preparing and submitting their ESL
endorsement portfolios for review in order to complete the continuous
assessment plan for the endorsement. Review takes place in the final phase
of the course, of which self-assessment and peer assessment are
components. Restricted to ESL endorsement candidates.
Prerequisite: All other ESL endorsement requirements completed.
