Women’s History Month March 2009
Invitation to Add Your Event to the
University of Louisville Women’s History Month Calendar of Events
“The purpose of women’s history is not to idealize women. On the contrary, the stories of women’s achievements present a full view of the complexity and contradiction of living a full and purposeful life…. We know from research and from anecdotal studies that learning the stories of women’s success, talent, and accomplishments expands a sense of what is possible for girls and women. Information about women and their successes gives males and females alike a perspective that challenges some of our cultures’ most unconscious and archaic assumptions about women. Thus, women’s history becomes a story of inspiration and hope. A story of courage and tenacity. A story of promise, possibility and purpose.” -- National Women’s History Project
Every March, the University of Louisville Women’s Center publishes a Women’s History Month calendar of events as part of its spring newsletter. It’s a source of event information in the Louisville metropolitan area and is mailed to over 3000 subscribers, available on our website, and distributed on U of L’s campuses.
If you or your organization plans to sponsor a program concerning women’s issues and would like to have it listed, please let us know. The calendar will be mailed around February 20. The deadline for submitting an event is Friday, January 30, 2009.
