Huayna Picchu from Machu Picchu

Peru 2013

Some of the many highlights of the trip were visiting the government run facility in Cusco, Peru for adolescent young girls who were victims of Human Trafficking. Climbing the ancient ruins of Huaca Pucllana in Lima and learning about the history and culture in Pre-Columbian times.  Students enjoyed traveling by train and bus to the Inca city of Ollantaytambo where people still live in the ancient structures. They enjoyed seeing the ancient Inca temples on Machu Picchu and climbing to the top of Wayna Picchu on trails cut into the mountainside by Inca craftsmen.  The entire group enjoyed the camaraderie of being together to share in this extraordinary trip and the opportunity to meet local people, learn about the culture and customs of this remarkable country.

The students gained a breath of knowledge from the beauty of another culture to the sad realities of the impact of Human Trafficking globally.  They experienced and enjoyed the beauty of another culture including; the architecture, art, music, people, food, culture and traditions. Students learned that the world around them may be large, but there are similarities and differences in all cultures.  Some students overcame their fears of travel and all are now excited to experience the world.
