Featured speaker, Crit Luallen, drew on her extensive background in public service, including the last eight years as Kentucky State Auditor, to discuss the critical importance of holding our leaders accountable and how women must be active participants in the democratic process to ensure a strong future for the generations that follow ours.

The U of L Women’s Center wishes to congratulate the 2012 Tachau Award Recipient and the Nichols Award recipients who were honored at the event. 

Mary K. Tachau Gender Equity Award

Shelly Santry, Assistant professor and Director of the Brandeis School of Law Domestic Violence Clinic (center holding certificate) is the 2012 recipient of the Mary K. Tachau Gender Equity Award.  Pictured at left is Valerie M. Casey, Interim Director of the Women’s Center and Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women (COSW); Susan Duncan, Interim Dean of the Brandeis School of Law; Phyllis M. Webb, Program Coordinator in the Women’s Center; Ann Lawson, Vice-Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women (COSW); and Brenda Hart, Executive Committee member of COSW and chair of the 2012 Tachau selection committee. 

Other nominees of the Tachau Award included:  Cathe Dykstra, President & CEO of the Family Scholar House; Dr. Vicki Hines-Martin, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Nursing; and Amy Shearer Lingo, Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education, College of Education and Human Development.

 Dr. M. Celeste Nichols Professional Development Awards

Graduate students (pictured below), Erin Ruth McCoy (Humanities); Laneshia R. McCord (Social Work) and Erica Caton (Social Work) are the recipients of the 2012 Dr. M. Celeste Nichols Professional Development Award.  They were recognized at the Women’s Center ECS Empowerment Luncheon on November 14, 2012 at the University Club.
