Mobile Mammography Unit

U of L Health Care mammography services include the latest digital imaging equipment available.  Now you can receive the same advanced mammography services offered at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center’s Breast Care Center from our Mobile Mammography Unit.  The mobile mammography program reaches women throughout the Louisville metro area through partnerships with local churches, community health clinics, and businesses.  Partnerships with area corporations are a key component to the program’s outreach efforts.  Each year approximately 6,000 women get their mammogram through the Brown Cancer Center’s mobile mammography program.

The Brown Cancer Center Mobile Mammography Van was the first mobile mammography unit in the country to offer digital imaging. This advance technology provides dramatically improved image contrast in all tissue, even denser breasts.  Patients benefit by reduced exposure times, improved imaging, and a more comfortable exam.

  • Annual mammograms are recommended for women 40 years and over.
  • Most insurance carriers cover annual mammograms starting at age 40.
  • In some cases, a breast MRI is recommended.
  • If you have health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, U of L Health Care will bill that agency.  For those without insurance, there is no cost to eligible women.
