Take Your Daughter or Sons to Work Day
Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day 2008
April 24, 2008
Dear Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day Visitors,
Welcome!
For fifteen years, women and men in the United States have been invited
to help connect what their children learn at school with the actual
working world, by bringing their daughters and sons to work with them,
one day a year. We hope you have fun today visiting the University of
Louisville today as part of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
Many people come to our university everyday.
Twenty-one thousand, seven hundred and twenty five (21,725) people here are students.
Five thousand seven hundred and five (5705) people work here. All of the workers try to help the students in different ways.
Some
of the workers are teachers. They are called “faculty.” They help
students learn in the classroom. Faculty also write books. And some are
scientists who discover how things work.
Some of the workers are librarians. They help students find things in the library.
Some of the workers are police officers. They help the students be safe at school.
Some of the workers are cooks who feed the students and other workers.
Some
of the workers keep the classrooms clean. Some answer telephones, write
letters, and pay bills for the school. Some make sure that the
computers work. Some are carpenters who build things and fix things
that break.
All together, UofL workers try to make the University a good place to learn. And a good place to work.
From
11:30AM -1PM on Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, workers from
the Women’s Center will be in the old lobby of Ekstrom Library to say
hello to you. Please stop by and visit us. We will give you a light
snack, a gift to welcome you to campus. We also encourage you to visit
the Speed Museum.
While you are on campus, you can learn about
the kinds of jobs people have at UofL. You can also think about what
you would like to be when you grow up.
Following this letter,
are links to some websites which might be fun for you to visit. Each
site has activities, games, or other information which we think you
might enjoy.
Once again, welcome!
Sincerely,
The Staff of the UofL Women’s Center
