Women’s basketball team to play for national championship

UofL’s women’s basketball team will face the University of Connecticut Huskies in the national championship game at 8:30 p.m. tonight. The UofL community will support the team both in St. Louis and Louisville.

  • Three busloads of students bound for St. Louis will depart Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium green lot (south of Central Avenue) at 1 p.m. today. In addition to the championship games, students will also attend a St. Louis pep rally for the team.
  • Game watch parties will be held at the Swain Student Activities Center and Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium.

Media need to register for Roberts talk

Members of the news media who want to cover an upcoming talk by Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts Jr. must register with UofL’s Communications and Marketing Office before noon Friday, April 10. Roberts will speak at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 in Cardinal Arena, Swain Student Activities Center, as a guest of the university’s McConnell Center. Public tickets for the event are no longer available. To sign up to cover the event, call Linda Erman at 502-852-6171.

Reducing sugar, adding fiber cuts diabetes risk

An article in the April issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine reports that Mexican American teens can improve their risk factors for type 2 diabetes with relatively small dietary changes--adding the fiber equivalent of one-half cup of beans and subtracting the sugar equivalent of one can of soda daily can make a real difference. These findings are significant for those at risk for type 2 diabetes, according to a UofL pediatric endocrinologist
