Engineering expo focuses on energy

It’s all about “the next generation of energy” as J.B. Speed School of Engineering hosts its annual free, public showcase of research and competition Saturday. The Engineering Expo will feature a 10:30 a.m. keynote talk on renewable energy by Kentucky Energy and Environment Secretary Len Peters in Bigelow Hall, Miller Information Technology Center; officials announced in January that the state’s Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research and Environmental Stewardship will be located at UofL. The expo will focus on engineering improvements in alternative fuel sources, clean energy and environmental technologies. The 9 a.m.-4 p.m. schedule includes high school engineering competitions, middle school exercises in engineering fundamentals and UofL students explaining their research in alternative energy and other projects. Experts to discuss achievement gap in black community

Experts from around the nation will discuss ways to address the achievement gap in the black community at the 36th annual National Conference on the Black Family in America March 12-15 at the Hotel Louisville Downtown. Financial aid crash course offered March 10

Future UofL students and parents will get a crash course on how to apply for financial aid Tuesday, March 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Horn Auditorium, College of Business. Experts from UofL’s Office of Financial Aid will go over the 2009–2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and explain the various programs available for financing higher education. The workshop is for admitted and transferring students from Jefferson County and surrounding areas. For more information contact the Office of Admissions at 502-852-6531.
