UofL engineering students place sixth in national competition

Offroading: It’s a dirty job but somebody has to do it. And there’s definitely a science to it. UofL engineering students placed sixth with their vehicle among 101 registered teams in a national competition this month. The UofL student chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers raises funds for, manages, designs, builds, tests and races its 10-horsepower, four-wheel mini-Baja vehicle. Next stop is a bigger competition mid-June in Wisconsin. For more information, call team captain Ben Myser, a fourth-year mechanical engineering student from Union, Ky., cell 859-393-4021.

School of Nursing marks a milestone

On May 9, UofL’s School of Nursing will confer its first PhD. University officials hope to see more nursing students pursue doctoral degrees as a way to address the national shortage of highly qualified nurses and future faculty members. Contact Julie Heflin at 502-852-7987 or by e-mail.
