Speed School, President Ramsey to dedicate sculpture Friday

Speed School of Engineering officials will join President James Ramsey at noon Friday to dedicate a polished black granite sculpture in front of the school’s J.B. Speed Building on Eastern Parkway near Third Street. Alumnus Bernard Dahlem, who contributed the 6-by-8-foot artwork titled Integrity, will be honored with others involved in its design and installation. The piece is incised with the shape of engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi’s symbol, called the bent, and the back includes an inscription about the importance of integrity. In case of rain, the ceremony will be in the building’s Virginia Speed Auditorium.

Serving health care needs of the backside workers

It’s almost time for the Kentucky Derby and horses aren’t the only ones at Churchill Downs who may need medical checkups. The Kentucky Racing Health Services Center (KRHSC) is a not-for-profit center that offers free care to backside workers and their families. Learn more about the impact this program has on the community. Contact Julie Heflin at (502) 852-7987 or e-mail Julie for more information.

Kentucky Derby

Why is placing a Derby bet such a popular pastime? What is the sociology of gambling?

Will you be working hard during Derby week? How do the Kentucky Derby and related events affect workplace productivity?

What are the odds? If you bank on raking in winnings from a long shot, you likely will be disappointed.
