Strategic plan program to be live on web

President James Ramsey and other UofL officials will brief the business community on “The 2020 Plan,” the university’s strategic plan, and its need for their support at a Greater Louisville Inc. “Top Investor” event Thursday, Feb. 26. UofL will webcast the 90-minute event on its home page, louisville.edu, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Grawemeyer winners to give public talks

Recipients of the 2009 Grawemeyer Awards will discuss their winning works and ideas at the University of Louisville and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary campuses March 3-12. The Grawemeyer prizes, five awards of $200,000 each, are given each year for outstanding ideas or works in music composition, world order, psychology, education and religion. UofL and the seminary jointly administer the religion award. No reservations or tickets are needed for the free public talks. For a complete schedule, see the Grawemeyer Awards site. Ramsey to visit Atkinson Elementary, UofL’s lab school

President James Ramsey; Dan Hall, vice president for Community Engagement; the Cardinal Bird; and other UofL representatives will be guests of the J.B. Atkinson Elementary School morning meeting March 3 at 8:55. Attending media should arrive at 8:45 a.m. Under the new Jefferson County Public Schools school assignment plan, Atkinson (located at 2800 Alford Ave.) will be UofL’s laboratory school and also a magnet school for teaching and learning excellence.

Zanewicz discusses UofL efforts to commercialize research, boost economy

Communities are turning to universities to commercialize research, create jobs and boost economic development.   • Feb. 24: “Passing the Baton: Current and Future Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement in Louisville,” noon-1:30 p.m., Room 275, Brandeis School of Law. Panelists include State Sen. Gerald Neal, Fourth Appellate District Judge Denise Clayton, Metro Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton and journalist Phillip Bailey. The event is part of the law school’s Diversity Forum Series.   • Feb. 26-27: Axton reading series features New York-based fiction writer and journalist Vasugi Ganeshananthan reading from her work at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 and leading a master class at 10 a.m. Feb. 27, both in Ekstrom Library’s Bingham Poetry Room.
  • Feb. 27: “A Season in Hell,”, 7 p.m., Floyd Theater, Student Activities Center. The documentary, filmed in the 1990s, explores a woman’s struggle with eating disorders. New addendum shows what happened to the woman at the center of the documentary. WAVE 3’s Dawne Gee will moderate a panel discussion after the film.   • March 3: An open house will be held to showcase the renovation of the old Home of the Innocents building to house the new home of the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Remarks at 5:30 p.m. The event will take place at 485 E.
