UofL celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day
UofL is observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day with two public events. The community is invited to participate in both activities.
- The Office of Civic Engagement, Leadership and Service will lead a day of community service. The MLK Challenge will begin with an opening ceremony at 12:15 at the Americana Community Center. Volunteers will then be divided into groups, charged with completing volunteer projects across the community. The day of service is limited to the first 150 volunteers. - A Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration featuring an overview by Blaine Hudson, College of Arts and Sciences dean, and a performance by African American Theatre Program will be at 1 p.m., Playhouse, Cardinal Boulevard between Second and Third streets. Nursing school offering distance learning courses
UofL School of Nursing is finding solutions to address the nursing shortage. This fall, the school will offer distance education courses to students in Owensboro through a partnership with Owensboro Medical Health System. - Jan. 13: Resident Student Association hosts an "American Idol" viewing party, 7-10 p.m., Floyd Theater, Student Activities Center. There will be viewing of the show's season premiere, free food and giveaways. The event is open to UofL students. Other event sponsors include the UofL Student Government Association, Sodexo and 98.9 KISS FM.

- Jan. 20 : The Black Faculty/Staff Association, the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and the Rauch Planetarium have partnered to offer faculty, staff and students an opportunity to watch the Jan. 20 inauguration. The ceremony will be shown at noon in Bigelow Hall, Miller Information Technology Center and at the Rauch Planetarium, both on Belknap Campus, and in the Kornhauser Library Auditorium on the Health Sciences Center Campus.
