Brittney Cooper to Deliver 2018 Minx Auerbach Lecture

The Women's and Gender Studies Department welcomes Dr. Brittney Cooper for the 2018 Minx Auerbach Lecture, "In Defense of Rage: Black Feminist Political Resources for 21st-Century Struggle."

Dr. Cooper is an associate professor of Women's and Gender Studies and Africana Studies at Rutgers University. She is a co-founder of the popular Crunk Feminist Collective blog and writes a monthly column on race, gender, and politics for Cosmopolitan.com. Her cultural commentary has been featured on MSNBC's All In With Chris Hayes, Melissa Harris Perry, Salon.com, Al Jazeera's Third Rail, the New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR, PBS, Ebony.com, Essence.com, and TheRoot.com.

Essence describes Cooper as "one of our fiercest voices in the new generation of African-American thinkers," and Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza says, "Cooper gives us the uncensored truth about how America has become what it is today, and reminds us in no uncertain terms that Black people, and particularly Black women, have the brilliance, foresight, and vision to bring a different America to fruition."

Dr. Cooper is co-editor of The Crunk Feminist Collection (The Feminist Press 2017). She is author of Beyond Respectability: The Intellectual Thought of Race Women (University of Illinois Press, May 2017) and Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower (St. Martin's, February 2018).
