Website Request Process

Step-by-step overview of the website request process at UofL. This includes all requests for new websites, migrations of current websites to the CMS, and any major website redesigns.

STEP 1: Please request a site at http://louisville.edu/web/tools/site-requests/

RESULT: The Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team will approve the domain name and placement of the site. If any questions arise regarding either of these aspects, someone from the team will contact you. Once you and the team approve of the request, the Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team will change the request to the “In Process” status.

STEP 2: The Information Technology Web Team will set up a “staging,” or development, instance for the client.

RESULT: The Information Technology Web Team will contact you once the staging site is activated. The status of the request will change to “Staging.”

STEP 3: You can now build your site.

RESULT: In the Site Request Tool, your status appears as “staging”

CONTACT: The Help Desk for Plone questions or issues.

 

STEP 4: When finished building, please contact the Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team to notify them that your site is ready for review.

RESULT: The Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team begins the review process. The status of the request at this stage is “Ready for Review.”

 

STEP 5: The Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team does an Accessibility and Content review and sends the results to the client. The client is to address these items and return the email to the Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team contact for a second “check-up” review.

RESULT: When passed for content, the site is handed off for an accessibility review by the Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team's member Marilyn Greenwell.

CONTACT: The Web Team

 

STEP 6: Marilyn Greenwell of the Office of Communications & Marketing Web Team does an accessibility/validation review and sends the results to the client. The client is to address these items and respond to Marilyn Greenwell’s review for a second “check-up” review

RESULT: When you fix all accessibility issues, if present, the site status will be flagged as “ready for live.” Someone from the Information Technology Web Team will then contact you to set a launch date for the site.

STEP 7: The Information Technology Web Team works with you to set a date for launch & to launch the site.
