Windows XP: Configuring and Using WebDAV
- Open Windows Explore by going to Start – Programs – Accessories – Windows Explorer.
- In the left pane, right click on "My Network Places" and choose the "Open" option. In the window that opens up, under the "Network Tasks" section on the left, you should see an "Add a network place" option.
- Choose “Add Network Place” and click Next at the first screen of the Add Network Place wizard.
- At the next screen, select “Choose another network location” and click Next.
- In the “Internet or network address,” put in the address you received from the web team when you requested WEBDAV access to your site. If you do not have this address, contact our team.
- Enter your university user ID and password at the prompt.
- At the next screen, enter “[YOURSITENAME] WEBDAV CONNECTION.” For example, IT would enter “IT WEBDAV CONNECTION” on this screen.
- If not already checked, check the select box next to “Open this network place when I click Finish” and click Finish.
- If you are prompted again, enter your university user ID and password.
- Once connected, you will see a Windows Explorer window that lists the contents of your static website on the new server.
- To change any file, you can download it to your computer by dragging it from its window onto your desktop or into another folder on your computer. Make all desired changes to the document.
- To publish your updated file, drag the file from its folder on your computer to the window labeled with the title you gave it in step 7.
- Go to your web browser, load the page you just changed, and confirm that the changes are correct. Repeat steps 1-12 if you want to make additional edits.
