Netdrive - File Transfer client
Use Netdrive to replace ws_ftp and other file transfer applications. Although Windows XP includes WebDAV support through it's "web folders" option, Novell's Netdrive may work better for some users.
Windows Client
Use the web like it's your C: drive
Netdrive is a Windows program from Novell that allows you to use a standard Internet connection to create a lettered drive ( I:\ , W:\, etc.) on your Windows PC or laptop that connects to a remote server. You can browse and save files to the Netdrive just like any other drive on your windows PC or Laptop.

Note: This client should work with the web servers and the CMS. We still need to do some testing, however.
Download and Install Netdrive
1) First, you'll need your ULink userid and password. Then you'll want to download a copy of the netdrive-installer.exe file from here. Save it to somewhere you can find it on your computer, like the Desktop as in Figure 1.
2) double click on the file netdrive-install.exe to start the Netdrive install.
3) Follow the on screen prompts to install Netdrive. You can accept all the defaults.
4) You'll have to restart your computer after the install. Please choose yes to allow the Netdrive install to reboot your machine.
Start Netdrive, rinse well and configure
You can start Netdrive two different ways:
- Right click the Netdrive icon located in the system tray (the icon is in the lower right next to the clock), and select "open Netdrive" as in Figure 2.
- Or, from the Start menu, go to
Start | Programs | Netdrivethen selectNetdrive.

Pick one, and start it!
Using Netdrive to get to your site
Remember, you must be connected to the Internet for all this to work!
You can configure Netdrive to point to your unit site, personal site, and/or any particular folder on those sites. You'll use Netdrive to create a drive, and copy files to it just like your C drive, i: drive, or a floppy. It'll do either FTP or WebDAV. We like WebDAV. To get started:
To create a new webdrive, click the 'New Site" button in the lower left. As you can see in Figure 3 You'll be prompted for a Site Name and Site Address/URL. For Site Name enter in any identifying name. Such as "My Folder", or "Department Site". In the Site Address/URL field, you might be able to use some of these examples:
- http://individual.louisville.edu gets you to the individual web pages.
- http://www.louisville.edu for faculty and staff to manage the unit and departmental web pages on www.
- http://yourunitname.louisville.edu for faculty and staff to manage virtual web sites on sites other than www.
Click Finish. You'll see the configuration screen once again and the grayed out fields are now editable.

Configure the Server Type and other options
Server type should be webdav and Drive: can be any letter not already in use. See Figure 4 for an example configuration.
Uncheck the Anonymous/Public Login checkbox and enter your ULink userID. Only save the password if you are the only person using that particular computer.
Figure 4: configure netdrive settings
Click Connect. That's it! Your new netdrive will appear in the file explorer, as in Figure 5. You can now save files to the new drive you created. Really, just drag files from one windows to the other. It's that easy.
