Jabber - Instant Messaging for groups

The power of group communication

There are a number of excellent Instant Messaging (IM) clients that exist already. So, why Jabber? We can manage it, and eventually tie it into the University's authentication process.

Although many IM clients support jabber today, the concept of "groupchat" chat rooms makes collaboration much more simple. So, we will stick to recommending those clients that do a good job of supporting the groupchat feature. Some of these follow.

Gaim - Multi-protocol chat client; gaim.sourceforge.net

Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, and Zephyr networks. Recommended! Available at: gaim.sourceforge.net

Exodus - Jabber client for Windows; psi.affinix.com

This is a straight-up jabber client used by many of the nerds in IT. The latest version of the Exodus jabber client for Windows XP can be found here: psi.affinix.com
