Manage Items and Document Types
Sometimes you want to give users fewer options when adding content through the web-possibly restricting the types of information that can be added to just files and pages. Here's how.
You can restrict what types of documents can be added into a folder from the 'add item' content management menus. Note: When in a folder view, add item reads differently as 'add to folder', but they do the same thing.
After you log in, select/click the 'Add Items' drop-down from the green document editing bar and choose 'settings...'.
The first step in limiting the number of options is to select 'add items'.
After you select 'settings...', you'll see the restrict items option, as seen in the screeshot (below).
Then, from the 'Restrict addable types' portion of the screen, make the following changes to 'Mode', 'Addable Types', and 'Preferred Types':
- Mode
- Set this to Manual
- Addable Types
- Control-Click to deselect the type you want to restrict. In this example, we're hiding the CalendarX document type.
- Preferred Types
- Set this the same as above. Deselecting a document type will simply remove it from the drop-down menu. The document type will still be addable from the Add Item page and can be accessed by clicking on the Add Item menu option.
As you can see in the following figure, the CalendarX document type is no longer displayed in the example Add Items menu.
