event registration tool
Event registration.... Is this a tool that you'd want in the CMS? If
so,
what features would you want it to have?

Debra Evans:
That would be very cool. Features - everything we can get.
Ok - I would want a description of the event. I would want to be able
to invite people using email addresses really cool if I could add the
addresses from my groupwise addressbooks and the ldap addressbook
without having to type in all the addresses, and I would like them to be
able to respond to the invitation and let us know if they can attend -
yes or no, and if they are bringing guests - how many, and their names.
I would like to be able to receive these rsvps into someone's groupwise
email account, or a service account - whichever would work, I assume
either. Cool funsy graphics on the invitation and sound would make it
even nicer - but not necessary unless that is possible. I would like to
be able to track the responses - how many yes, how many no, and pull up
a guestlist. Is that enough information?

Curtis:
Well, we were not even thinking of having this on the CMS,
we didn't even think to ask.
We just figured that we would have to port out the service to another
company.
We would want to register participants for seminars and conferences.
The registrants would need to put name, title position, org, and all
numbers.
we would like to be able to do simple pre-event surveys and post event
evaluations
they would have to be able to pay online
we would like to be able to set up email reminders and confirmation
email
we would like to be able to print name tags and sign in sheets
We will need to be able to download the DB to track participants
we would like to see the ability to do manual registration
we would like to see a couple levels of administrative access
we would like to be SSL secure/encrypted if at all possible
we would love to be able to print/compile some sort of graphs or
reports for our board.
we will need to be able to have it 'Plone' simple for our teammates to
be able to handle it
these are just a few of the features off the top of my head
the firms that we have been looking at are listed below,
though we seem to really be leaning toward ABCSignup.com
ABCsignup.com
sporg.com
eregister.com
I know KPPC is willing to fork out some money to have this capability,
and I am sure would be more than willing to consider "the Bendl
solution" to this problem. I will let Ken O'Hara know that you are
interested in considering taking on this project.
It seems to me that it would be a bit of coding majic but nothing too
complicated, we are not asking for computation of algorithms, just the
ability to ask questions and log data, and perhaps hook up to a credit
card processing place.
If you think this is something that you can do in the near-ish future,
please let us know so that we do not commit to something that we may
wish we had you do for us.
It sounds like this functionality in Plone would be utilized throughout
the campus, so it may be a good investment for both of us.
Thanks being on top of things.

IF possible ....
* Custom fields and field types
* Ability to designate required fields
* Multiple user select logic and restrictions - i.e. if value 1 is
selected in the first option, the next option will have different
selection choices; users can be limited to a preset number of checkbox
options depending on the question.
* Ability to show either an ascending or descending count of
registrants.
* Option to hide event or prevent registration when a number of
registrants is reached (as in Full).
... And then for processing, I'd like to see the features available
with a tool I found called FormTools. http://www.formtools.org/
FormTools is not perfect - having trouble with mutli-page submit forms
even though it's technically possible - however it has some nice options
for handling the submitted data:
- Option to let users preview before final submission
- Confirmation page for printing or confirmation email sent to
specified email address
- Email notification sent to admin and/or designated recipient upon
submission
- Form data either emailed or written to database
- plus more ...
I'm not sure how much can be done here without spending weeks and weeks
on it, but it's a nice thing to have available in the CMS.
