Our Development Cycle for Projects

  • U of L IT Information Systems uses five steps of software development in order to deliver a quality product.
  • The five steps are:
  1. Scope - The Scope Step is used as a Discovery Step to determine just what the requirements are for this Project in greater detail. The Scope Step overviews the entire project and provides a description of the final product and an estimated schedule for completion of the final product.
  2. Design - In the Design Step, the Customer’s team reviews the specific technical approach of U of L IT Information Systems.  The coding language, method of data storage, documentation, and methods of compliance with policies of U of L are established. The navigation and workflow requirements and areas such as content and content management are fully specified.
  3. Development -  The beginning of this step means that the Customer is comfortable with the concept and the design of the project developed by U of L IT Information Systems and the Customer.  The decision by the Customer to proceed empowers U of L IT Information Systems to begin the coding process.  In the Development Step, the IT web site team reviews the design solution and begins construction and coding of all components. Test planning and all materials to support the project’s User Acceptance are also started along with the coding of software.
  4. User Acceptance -  In the beginning of the User Acceptance Step, the Customer’s team reviews the evaluation copy of the application along with a document of supported features.  This Step is closed with the Customer’s acceptance of the evaluation copy of the project and their signoff to move it to a Production Environment.
  5. Production Turnover -  Depending upon the size of the project this step may be a few hours or up to a couple of days. During this step the application and all components and modules are migrated to the production environment and the project becomes “Live”. At the conclusion of the Production Turnover Step, to close the Project, the Customer will sign off on the Project.

 Development Process

Important:

Before any coding occurs, U of L IT Information Systems will need to create a Design Specification set of documents for the project. The creation of this set of documents will likely require one or more additional meetings with the client to be sure that IT Information Systems has a clear understanding of all requirements that are desired by the customer

Note:  Development or user acceptance stages may cause a return into the scope or design stages and then progress forward again.
