Update on CMS migration project; action may be required
December 14, 2008
On August 28, 2008, Information Technology (IT) and Communications & Marketing (OCM) held a public forum to announce a new strategy for university websites and departmental business applications, including a move to the Plone content management system (CMS) for all static sites and a move to Java or APEX for all departmental business applications. In addition, you may have received e-mails related to each phase of the project over the course of the fall semester. Today, we would like to update you on the status of the project milestones and request action from you if any of the action items apply to you or your unit’s website or business applications.
WebDAV Access on the 'New' Temporary Static Webserver
Information Technology (IT) and Communications and Marketing (OCM) at UofL are working closely together to implement a new infrastructure to better support department and school websites.
Because of known security issues and the cost of maintaining the old hardware and software, the Athena webserver was permanently shut down on 12/19/2008. Note: Any Student and Personal non-University business-related Faculty/Staff websites should have been removed from Athena by 12/19/2008.
- ALL Athena web content was moved to the 'New' Temporary Static Webserver infrastructure hardware on 12/19/2008.
- This new infrastructure is only a temporary area to host Athena-based content that has not yet been migrated to the Plone CMS system. The 'New' Temporary Static Webserver will only be alive and available through 06/30/2009.
- Due to known security issues with FTP, the 'New' Temporary Static Webserver will only use WebDAV as the transfer method for maintaining any content. Note: This is only for those who still have 'Live' Athena sites.
- To receive instructions on how to use WebDAV, and to request WebDAV access to your 'New' Temporary Static Webserver site, please fill out the form at WebDAV Access Request Form.
If you need help with this, please contact the Application Development Team. This is a service that we can provide.
