James Armstead played with and against African-American sports legends

James "Jimmie" Armstead talks about his first at-bat against legendary pitcher Satchel Paige in 1939. "He didn't know who I was. So he started me off with a pitch low and inside and I hit it out of the ballpark-out off the icehouse over right field."

A Louisville native who grew up on the West Side near 16th Street and graduated from Central High School and went on to attend Louisville Municipal College, the 84-year-old Armstead looks like he could still swing for the fences today. His stories about his years in the Negro Baseball Leagues are the stuff of legend.
