Todays students are more diverse in need and desire than their predecessors, and they are actively searching for an education that provides the highest quality for the best value. In order to meet the needs of a changing student population, U of L is taking the following steps:

| Cornerstone Two: Faculty and Research | |
| Goal: $75.09
million U of L is advancing toward the status of a premier metropolitan research university. To achieve this goal, the university must focus on targeting specific programs for excellence and national prominence, investing in endowed faculty, resources, and research. To recruit and retain the most qualified faculty members at a time when demand and competition is steadily growing, U of L needs significant funding to create additional endowed faculty chairs and to fund world-class research. The university has set a goal to establish 25 new endowed chairs funded at $1 million or more during the campaign and to attain 75 endowed chairs across all 12 colleges and schools by the year 2008. |

million U of L must renew its mission to enhance economic development in partnership with the business, industrial, and nonprofit sectors in the Louisville area and throughout the state. The university will continue to be a valuable resource as it builds upon its existing strengths in medical research, entrepreneurship, environmental studies, and logistics and distribution. With increased resources, the university will:

million In a thriving university with growing needs, new facilities and infrastructure improvements are constantly on the drawing board. A major focus for the campaign is additional funding for research facilities, as well as for the University Park recreation complex on the Belknap campus. Campaign funds have already helped in the construction of the following new facilities on the Health Sciences Center campus:
