Leaping over Barriers
When Eddie Whitehead was recruited by U of L in 1962, he felt like it was the perfect ticket. The university competed in the Missouri Valley Conference. It was only a two-hour drive from his hometown. And academically, it was ranked high. What he didn’t know was that no other African American student had ever played basketball for the Cardinals.
